Creating a world-class virtual accounting platform

Overview

1-800Accountant is a leading American virtual accounting platform with over 1 million users. It provides small businesses with a full suite of online accounting services, including tax preparation, virtual bookkeeping, financial best practice consulting, and auditing. It has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and consistently gets good reviews on TrustPilot.

The idea

1-800Accountant set out to make accounting easier and more accessible for their clients. In addition to simplifying access to their services, they wanted to cater to a broad range of virtual bookkeeping and online accounting needs. They needed a technical partner to transform their vision into reality, so they chose Star.

Project

During a four-year-long partnership, Star worked with 1-800Accountant to develop ClientBooks, an entirely new single-sign-on (SSO) web portal. Along with the accompanying iOS and Android apps, ClientBooks provides a new take on virtual accounting management, enabling small businesses to benefit from a wide range of online bookkeeping, tax and financial features in one place.

Project

One of this virtual accounting platform’s key features is the ability to automatically sync bank and credit transactions to the system, categorize them, and use this data to generate financial reports. This feature required integrating with Finicity (to pull transaction records into the system) and Intuit QuickBooks. Automation allows 1-800Accountant’s consultants to work efficiently, use fewer resources, and focus on helping clients rather than doing data entry.  

ClientBooks has solved a major problem for small businesses – finding the time and money for proper bookkeeping. And the new website, apps, and administration portal has enhanced the user journey for both clients and consultants, allowing 1-800Accountant to provide an extended suite of online accounting solutions.
