We’re looking for an execution-oriented Design Business Developer to support our growth in the US, based in the San Francisco Bay Area or any of the top venture / innovation hubs of the US. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer,  you will be experienced with, and passionate about, supporting clients to transform through strategy, design, and technology. You are someone who can envision and bring simple, yet highly engaging experiences to life that balance desirability, viability, and feasibility. A person who has an entrepreneurial mindset and is willing to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the growth of the Star Design unit. Ultimately, you should be passionate about working with clients and internal stakeholders to shape deals that meet our clients’ needs and that leverage our unique value proposition.

You

Must have:

  • 10+ years of business development experience within strategic design services and / or digital strategy consulting
  • A solid design background and understanding of design as a strategic imperative for driving transformative endgames 
  • The ability to motivate and capture an audience with storytelling and being a big-picture thinker
  • Demonstrated capability to manage all phases of the business development process, from market planning, personal outreach, lead identification to deal development
  • A strong network within senior design and innovation management communities, spanning startups, corporate intrapreneurs, and influencers 
  • Agile, open-minded, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Self-driven, quick learner, and decisive
  • Fluently spoken and written English

Should have:

  • Experience with the entrepreneurial dynamics of a start-up
  • Experience in some of our key business and design domains: Automotive & Mobility, Health & Wellness, Industry & Manufacturing, FinTech, AdTech & MarTech, and Consumer Electronics

Nice to have:

  • Managing Director experience of a studio/agency is a plus

Responsibilities

As an Design Business Developer at Star, you are expected to manage and excel in all phases of the business development cycle:

  • Work with the US design team to define a go-to-market strategy for design in the US
  • Generate leads from industry and networking events, working with our marketing team to ensure the appropriate field support
  • Define marketing campaigns and generate high quality content to generate inbound leads
  • Reach out to your existing rolodex of customer in the design network to develop new leads
  • Nurture your leads whether they originate from your own efforts, referrals, marketing programs, or our inside sales team
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities and collaborate with our pre-sales team to create winning proposals
  • Own your sales funnel ensuring that enough leads are touched at the top and managed through each stage of the funnel to become high quality and winnable deals 
  • Spend a significant portion of time in the field, developing and leveraging relationships through personal meetings, presentations, networking, speaking engagements, or social outings 
  • Work closely with the existing commercial team in the US to win qualified deals, either by supporting their effort to close your leads, or taking your own leads all the way to a close deal
